"Consider Humanism" TV ads are a direct attack on Christianity

My wife Amy saw a commercial tonight and called me in to watch it. It was a commercial from a group called the "American Humanist Association". It is one of 3 ads from their new ad campaign called "Consider Humanism". This is the commercial we saw (the transcript of the video is listed under it):

The site above also has the other 2 commercials from this group and the transcripts. After looking into it more, each commercial basically taking a Bible verse out of context to make it "sound bad". This is just another example of how atheist groups are aggressively making direct attacks against Christianity.

Worshiping Through Work

"Father, today I want to worship you through my work. I want to express my gifts. I want to do it as if I'm doing it for You and I want to do it in love."

"Do all your work in love." 1 Corinthians 16:14 (TEV)

From Pride to Surrender

"It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God."
2 Corinthians 3:5 (NLT)

A.W. Tozer -- "The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven't yet come to the end of themselves. We're still trying to give orders, and interfering with God's work within us."

C. S. Lewis -- "The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become - because he made us. He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be. It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own."

Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race

Eli had his Pinewood Derby Race with Cub Scouts this past weekend. His car did pretty good. He made it into the winners bracket by winning a few races. Eli was real excited. Then he started losing to the faster cars. He started pouting a little. It was funny to see each of the boys go through this same similar transition.

By the end, they all had fun. One of those hard life lessons learned: win some, lose some.

Andy and Lizet Bowen

We recently had a chance to meet Andy and Lizet Bowen who currently are serving in Paraguay. They visited our church and Andy spoke about their ministry. They work with English-speaking missionaries to help them learn the Guarani language (one of Paraguay’s two national languages) and Paraguayan culture.

Who knows, maybe we will learn Guarani from them one day?

Gracious Uncertainty

This devotional really makes a great point about how we are to completely rely on God:

Oswald Chambers, in My Utmost for His Highest, writes "The nature of the spiritual life is that we are certain in our uncertainty." He describes this as "gracious uncertainty," where "we are uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of God." I would add we can be certain of God's grace while being graciously uncertain of the future details of our lives.

With gracious uncertainty, we can be confident in our expectations, knowing our hope in the Lord will not disappoint (Romans 5:5). With gracious uncertainty, we can release the things we have no responsibility for, yet worry about anyway.

[...]

If only we all had such faith, no longer requiring God to submit to our clocks and calendars. Our objective-in-Jesus is to grow confident each day that our heavenly Father will come through at just the right time in just the right way.

Isn't that great?!? Not to say that it is easy to do, but I really like how he explained that we should not worry about things. Just wanted to share that thought with you. God bless!
